My Child Support Practice
Resolving child support disputes can often be a complicated process. It is your absolute duty to support your children. Child support is their birthright, therefore, it is mandatory and cannot be waived or negotiated away for anyone. And it cannot be discharged by bankruptcy.
In California, child support is calculated using a state formula, which factors in the incomes of the parents, as well as health insurance, union dues, retirements, other legal deductibles, and day care cost. The amount of child support each parent must contribute will also depend on the custody arrangement, the visitation schedule, and several other factors.
Child support is also modifiable when there is a change of circumstances, and may be periodically updated for a Cost Of Living Adjustment.

A grant of spousal support is customarily designed to give the supported party time to re-establish his or her earning capacity and to regain a particular standard of living. Because it's between two adults, unlike child support, it is negotiable. Even a final order is not carved in stone and can be modified when there is a substantial change of circumstances. And I can help you review your situation to determine is a spousal support order is fair and equitable and if a modification should be requested.
